As part of the federal stimulus package and the state-wide goal to save energy, PGE and SMUD are launching new rebate programs for residential weatherization and retrofitting. Both PG&E and SMUD customers may now take advantage of these rebate programs implemented through the California Building Performance Contractors Association (CBPCA). Customers may choose to perform a simple prescriptive package of energy efficiency measures and receive a flat rebate of $1000, or they can participate in the performance based program where the rebate value is associated with the amount of energy that can be saved. For example, saving 20% earns $2000 in rebates. Each 5% energy reduction beyond that earns another $375, up to $3500 total. Bay Area HERS professionals will guide you through the rebate application process. For consultation call 650-759-7709 or email info@bayareahers.com.
A federal tax credit of $1500 each year may be applied towards the cost of materials used to improve energy efficiency of homes. Up to 30 % of the material cost for measures such as insulation, windows, air sealing apply. For major systems upgrades, such as high efficiency furnaces, boilers, air conditioners, water heaters, air source heat pumps and biomass stoves the credit may be applied against material cost and labor up to $1500. Finally, for installation of renewable energy sources like solar or wind, the tax credit may be used for materials and labor up to 30% of the total cost with no cap.
Rebates and tax credits work simultaneously. For consultation call 650-759-7709 or email info@bayareahers.com.
